Spray foam insulation offers several advantages over traditional insulation materials such as fiberglass. Spray foam is a type of insulation that is applied as a liquid and then expands and hardens into a foam, filling gaps and sealing off air leaks more effectively than other types of insulation. Spray foam is considered "open" or "closed" cell based on its density. Spray foam insulation creates an air-tight seal, reducing the amount of air that leaks in and out of a building. This can help to keep indoor temperatures consistent and reduce energy costs. This can improve the overall comfort and durability of a home or business.
Closed cell foam is made up of cells that are, as the name suggests, completely closed. The cells are pressed together, so air and moisture are unable to get inside the foam.
Open cell spray foam is a very pliable, light-weight insulation material best suited for attics, rim joists or open wall cavities.
Blown-in insulation is a fluffy, loose-fill insulation material that's commonly used in attics and walls. Made of fiberglass or natural wool, this insulation can literally be blown into hard-to-reach spaces using a blower machine with a hose attachment. Blown insulation is more airtight than batts and rolls because it can get into the tiny nooks and crevices in your attic, where heat and cool air typically escape – this is what makes it so much more energy efficient than other solutions.
